“Like most people, mental illness, addiction and mental health challenges have come up in my family and circle of friends. I’ve seen the value of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s grants in action. I’m happy to help the Foundation and Bell Let’s Talk improve access to support for people in need and reduce the stigma that can prevent people from getting help. Let’s change the way people think!”
BIO
Stu grew up between Halifax and Dartmouth, fiercely debating with his brother Matt in the many car rides to school and countless sport practices (he sends a special thanks to his parents for enduring the endless banter). He didn’t pursue his musical talents or sing to anyone else until his 20s, despite knowing that he could. He now works for Bell Canada in IT strategy, and spends much of his personal time advancing youth-serving organizations.
Stu is the President of the Halifax Argos Football Club and the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors at the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning (a youth arts centre in Dartmouth supported by the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia). Accepting leadership roles and serving youth have helped Stu more fully embrace his confidence and musical talents, and he now sings in front of audiences at the occasional open mic night or coffee house.
